IKEA foundation established, 2010, the social enterprise Better Shelter. The following years, in cooperation with UNHCR, a shelter has been evolved according to “IKEA principles”; cost effective, intelligent designed, functional and stable, in order to provide an accommodation meets the human needs. These shelters are provided by lockable doors and windows, in addition to solar panels, for supplying power, that consist of meatal chassis and sturdy plastic panels. Inside the shelter, the height is enough for an adult to stand up. The inner space is about 18 m2, which could contain up to a family of eight members.
Better Shelter stets 500 accommodations for 500 families and, together with Terre des hommes, coordinates the delivery of the tents on the site. The training for the staff, in order to be able to set up the shelters in a functional operation, is also essential.
Terre des hommes
Terre des hommes is already working on the project field and cooperating with the local authorities. The environment must be secured for the homecoming, from landmines, for instance. Taking the responsibility for the distribution of the accommodation, the construction, together with the families, and the area monitoring are also carried out by Terre des hommes.
Respekt.net, together with the project partners, intends to draw the public’s attention to the fact that we can help on the field. Making homecoming something possible is efficient, as well as the humane beings themselves in the crisis area.
